HLA works alongside Laurel Elementary school to care for, support and share in their students successes. This month we celebrate 5 HLA students for being awarded student of the month through a program at Laurel called “Failure leads to success.”
Specifically we would love to spotlight, Jonathan Barraza. This student of the month recipient is the newest member of our HLA family at Laurel. He originally joined Hope as a student who was easily distracted. His participation in a bigger community, with structure and the support that HLA provides has really helped impact how he handles himself and his environment.
Everyday our students practice 5 principles, our third principle being “I believe my choices and decisions will affect myself and others, and I am responsible for them. Colossians 3:23- “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Jonathan’s teacher chose him for student of the month because despite all the distractions in the classroom he has been working hard to focus and stay on task. He also continues to work on a problem until he finds the solution, always asks for help and has improved on reading aloud for 15 minutes. We believe Jonathan is owning principle number 3 and has clearly displayed it through his actions that awarded him as student of the month.
We couldn’t be more proud of the transformation God is making in his life in such a short amount of time. We look forward to sharing more impact stories from Laurel through the HLA program in the future.
